Bluff Dice 🎲

The aim of the game Bluff Dice is simple: roll higher than the player before you. But the most important part? Lying and stitching up your friends. Set up the game with 3 dice and a cup. Players roll in turns. The highest die determines the hundreds, the second highest the tens and the lowest the units.

The first player: Start by rolling the 3 dice under the cup. Make sure the others cannot see it. They may roll up to three times and thereby set the number of rolls. Say player 1 rolls 4, 3 and 6 under the cup and calls “643”.

The next player has two options: Believe it: They believe the “643” roll is right, take the dice and try to roll a higher value. If you then discover someone has bluffed, tough luck — you still have to try to roll higher. Call the bluff: They think someone is bluffing and lift the cup so everyone can see. If player 1 has bluffed, the bluffer gets 6 penalty points. If player 1’s roll is right or higher, the player who doubted gets 6 penalty points.

If someone has/bluffs 3 sixes, the next player has two options: Believe it: They believe there are 3 sixes and take the dice. This player now has to roll 3 sixes in three rolls, setting each 6 aside separately. Call the bluff: They think someone is bluffing and lift the cup so everyone can see. If the previous player has bluffed, the bluffer gets 12 penalty points. If player 1’s roll is right or higher, the player who doubted gets 12 penalty points.

Bonus rules

  • Rolling outside the cup: During your turn you may choose to place dice outside the cup. This way you can lock in dice for your own roll, for example.
  • Convincing: You can place a die on or next to the cup to mislead the other players or convince them of your roll. You may also, for example, roll one or more dice outside the cup.
  • Taking a gamble: Slide the cup along full of confidence without knowing what you rolled.
  • Strategic deals: During your roll, strike a deal with the player next to you that they pass the cup straight on without looking. That way you can do them a favour and stitch up one of the next players with a roll. The cup must be passed on immediately.
